A municipal museum introducing the nature of Nayoro and life in northern Hokkaido, shaped over time by snow and cold. The exhibits convey concretely, through tools and photographs, how people got through the harsh winters, and even on a summer visit the contrast between the seasons leaves an impression. The outdoor highlight is the preserved Kimaroki formation (キマロキ編成), a train assembled for snow clearing. The row of black locomotives and snowplough cars is impressive, and a railway-loving child could happily spend a long time here alone. Having both indoor and outdoor exhibits also makes planning easier whatever the weather. Take an unhurried look around the cool interior in preparation for the afternoon water play.

北海道立サンピラーパーク水遊びの広場(噴水)は、名寄市の北海道立サンピラーパークにある無料の水遊び場です。噴水を中心とした広場で、吹き上がる水の下をくぐったり、水しぶきを追いかけたりと、子どもたちは思い思いに遊びます。例年の期間は4月25日(土)から9月15日(火)で、公式の案内では夏期「4月下旬〜9月中旬」とされています。園内にはふわふわドームやお花畑があり、水遊びに飽きたら跳ねる、花を見て歩く、と遊びを切り替えられるのがこの公園の良さです。交流館にトイレがあり、駐車場も整っているので、小さな子ども連れでも一日を通して安心して過ごせます。道北の短い夏の、澄んだ空気と広い空の下で過ごす時間は、家族の記憶にしっかり残ります。

Tips

水遊びの広場は外靴での立ち入りが禁止されています。水遊び用のサンダルやぬれてもよい履物を必ず用意してください(出典: https://www.nayoro.co.jp/sunpillarpark/07mizu-no-hiroba.html)。開設状況は天候や気温に左右されるため、出かける前に公式の案内で当日の状況を確認しましょう。道北は朝晩の冷え込みがあり、ぬれた体は思った以上に冷えます。着替えとはおるものを人数分そろえておくと安心です。園内は広いので、駐車場とトイレの位置を最初に確かめておくと動きやすくなります。

Tips

Please check opening hours and closing days before setting out. There is nothing to block the sun around the outdoor Kimaroki formation, so bring a hat and drinks when viewing it. The interior is a place for quiet viewing, so entering after promising not to run is reassuring. You can drive on to Sunpillar Park, taking care of lunch and shopping in the town centre on the way.
