Nayoro City's observatory, located inside Hokkaido Sunpillar Park (北海道立サンピラーパーク). With clear air and little influence from city lights, Nayoro is known as land well suited to observing the stars, and a large telescope has been installed to make the most of that environment. Inside there are exhibits about space and the stars that amply stimulate a child's curiosity even on a daytime visit. Because it is in the same park, the journey to the water play afterwards takes almost no time at all, which is a real help when planning. You can also cool off indoors and let the hottest part of the afternoon pass here.

Tips

Opening hours and closing days vary by date, so be sure to check before building this into your plan. Stargazing sessions are held on some days, so if you plan to stay into the evening, look up the dates in advance. The interior is a place for quiet viewing. If you stop by after the water play, dry off thoroughly before entering.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour 15 minutes. You can spend the strong early-afternoon sun indoors.
