Nishi-Obihiro Park Waterway (Water Play)
About this spot
The Nishi-Obihiro Park Waterway water-play area is a free water playground in Nishi-Obihiro Park in Obihiro City. Various channels are laid out in the grounds, and children never tire of simply following the flow on foot. The 2026 opening period has not been announced yet; in past years the water runs to match the summer holidays. The water is shallow, so even children who have just started walking can stand on their own feet and play, which is reassuring. Because the park sits in a residential neighborhood, local children gather naturally, and it is common for a child to start running around with someone they met only that day. There is no admission fee and no changeover of visitors, so you can repeat playing and resting at your child's own pace.

Tips
The 2026 opening period has not been announced. Before you go, be sure to check the Obihiro City information to see whether the water is running that day. It may also be closed because of bad weather, cleaning or water-quality management. Assume there are no changing rooms: wear swimwear underneath, or bring a wrap towel so you can change. The bottom of the channel can be slippery, so sandals that protect the soles of the feet are reassuring. Shade is limited, so bring a picnic sheet and a hat, plus a light layer to put on after getting out.
Best time to visit
Enter from 14:20 and you can play for more than two hours, through to the evening when the sunlight softens.
