About this spot

One of the largest ward-run parks in Shinagawa, stretching along the Katsushima Canal (勝島運河). Inside are a large pond, lawn areas and a playground, and simply walking the waterside promenade is a pleasure. There are many trees, so even in midsummer you can pick a shady spot to spread a picnic sheet. The Shinagawa Aquarium is in the same park, which makes it convenient to move straight on after lunch. There is also an open area where ball games are allowed, suiting children who want to move about after eating.

Tips

Picking up your packed lunch around Omori Station (大森駅) or Oimachi Station (大井町駅) before heading over keeps things smooth. Rubbish is taken home as a rule, so bring a bag. Some parts around the pond have low fencing, so keep an eye on small children. Checking where the aquarium entrance is beforehand makes the afternoon move easier.

About 1 hour 10 minutes. Choose a shady spot and you can eat calmly even at midday in high summer
