Echizen-Ono: A Castle in the Sky and Shichiken-dori Historic Town Stroll
The day begins with a leisurely morning climb up Kameyama mountain toward Echizen-Ono Castle (越前大野城), known as "the castle in the sky." After viewing the grid-patterned castle town from the keep, experience the past at the samurai residence Former Uchiyama House (旧内山家) at the mountain's base, then head to Shichiken-dori (七間通り), known for its 400-year-old morning market. Enjoy lunch of soy sauce katsu-don or grated buckwheat noodles, followed by food-tasting walks through Japanese confectionery. The day concludes at Mishimizu (御清水), selected as one of Japan's Top 100 Pure Waters, where you can dip your hands in the clear spring water.
