2026 Full-Day Course: Strolling the Gardens of Ashigari-go Seto Residence
This course lets you spend a full day savoring Ashigari-go Seto Residence (あしがり郷 瀬戸屋敷), an old farmhouse roughly 300 years old standing amid the rice fields of Kaisei Town. Once the home of the Seto family, who served as village headmen here during the Edo period, it retains features that convey life at the time, including the thatched-roof main house along with a waterwheel, storehouse, sunken hearth, and well at the entrance. The garden, with its waterway and the grove of trees that shelters the residence, has a stillness that makes time feel like it slows down as you walk through it. Admission is free (there may be a fee during special events), and the residence is open 10:00-17:00, closed Mondays (or the following day if Monday is a holiday) and over the New Year holidays. Parking is also available. In the morning, take a leisurely walk along the countryside path from Kaisei Station on the Odakyu Line, known for its hydrangeas, and in the afternoon immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the old farmhouse at Seto Residence, for a family-friendly day out.
