Makino: The Metasequoia Avenue and Orchard Village
The Metasequoia Avenue (メタセコイア並木), running straight for about 2.4km, is one of Shiga's finest scenic roads, picture-perfect whether in fresh spring greenery, autumn foliage, or a blanket of snow. After walking the avenue, enjoy seasonal fruit picking and lunch at the neighboring Makino Pick Land (マキノピックランド), then in the afternoon drive the lakeshore at the cherry blossom spot Kaizu Osaki (海津大崎) and play in the water at the shallow Makino Sunny Beach (マキノサニービーチ). Finish up with souvenir shopping at the pass-top roadside station while taking in a view of Lake Biwa. Recommended for photo-loving families, this course lets you fully enjoy a day in Makino.
