Mount Daisen: Ogamiyama Shrine, Daisenji Temple, and a Highland Lift with Spectacular Views
A one-day course around the foot of Mount Daisen, the highest peak in the Chugoku region, made for nature lovers. After gathering walking information at the Daisen National Park Center, walk the natural stone-paved approach, said to be the longest of its kind in Japan, to Ogamiyama Shrine's Okunomiya (Inner Shrine). At the end of the cedar-lined approach awaits a solemn shrine building in the gongen-zukuri style. After visiting Daisenji Temple, an ancient temple of mountain worship, enjoy lunch and the famous specialty soft-serve ice cream at Daisen Makiba Milk no Sato while looking out over the green pasture. Finish with a ride through the sky on the Sky Lift at Masumizu Highlands. The grand panorama spreading out below, with Yumigahama and the Sea of Japan, is a spectacular sight fitting for the finale of a trip spent feeling the nature of Mount Daisen with your whole body.
