Anan: Gamodamaki Cape and Tsuminé Shrine – Scenic Spectacular at Shikoku's Easternmost Point
An all-day scenic driving course through Anan, Shikoku's easternmost town. In the morning, ascend Tsuminé Skyline to reach Tsuminé Shrine at the mountain summit, overlooking the multi-island beauty of Tachibana Bay, celebrated as the Awa Islands of Matsushima. The main attraction, Gamodamaki Cape, awaits with a white lighthouse and a grand panorama of the Kii Channel at the end of the stone-stepped walking trail. After enjoying a beach walk at Kitanowaki Kaiyoku Beach, where white sand and pine groves stretch along the shore, head to the Michi no Eki (rest area) associated with the Awa daimyo for a late lunch and local shopping. The finale is the Anan City Science Center, equipped with one of Japan's largest-class reflecting telescopes for a science experience. From the mountaintop to the peninsula's tip, as you grip the steering wheel, the sea draws ever closer—a perfect day for driving enthusiasts.
