Saijo: A Journey Through Sky and Steam - Ishizuchi Ropeway and Railway Park
This is a course for a full day of vehicle-filled experiences in Saijo, Ehime Prefecture, nestled at the foot of Ishizuchi Mountain, the highest peak in western Japan. In the morning, ride the large gondola of the Ishizuchi Tozan Ropeway for an 8-minute aerial stroll. You'll ascend rapidly to an elevation of 1,300 meters in the sky, gazing upon the summit of the sacred mountain from Ishizuchi Shrine's Jouju Branch at the top. After a midday rest at a roadside station overlooking Ishizuchi Mountain, in the afternoon head to the Railway History Park in SAIJO adjacent to Iyo-Saijo Station. This exhibition hall is irresistible for vehicle enthusiasts, where you can encounter the actual first-generation 0-series Shinkansen with its charming rounded nose and diesel locomotives. To conclude, pay your respects at the main shrine of Ishizuchi Shrine with its vermillion grand torii gate. A family adventure that alternates between ropeway and train, sky and earth—a journey that captivates everyone.
