2026 Yanai: The White-Walled Old Town and Yanai Port A Full-Day Course
This is a full-day course centered on the Yanai Goldfish Lantern Festival, held on Thursday, August 13, 2026, that lets you fully enjoy Yanai City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, from daytime onward. Yanai City, with its white-walled streets dating from the Edo period, is an atmospheric port town also known as the birthplace of the goldfish lantern. During the day, take a leisurely walk through the white-walled old town, designated a national Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings, and experience the local culture and history. In the afternoon, take a break at one of Yanai's lush green parks, then return to the white-walled old town in the evening to enjoy the festival's highlight, when the goldfish lanterns light up all at once. This is a quintessentially Yamaguchi summer day plan, colored by the white-walled streets and the glow of the goldfish lanterns.
