2026 Yamagata Grand Fireworks Festival: Full-Day Course
A full-day course centered on the Yamagata Grand Fireworks Festival (山形大花火大会), held on Friday, August 14, 2026, enjoying the history and nature of Yamagata City (山形市) from daytime onward. In the afternoon, stroll through Kajo Park (霞城公園), with over 400 years of history, and take in the powerful sight of the former inner citadel of Yamagata Castle (山形城) and the Ninomaru Higashi-Ote Gate (二の丸東大手門). Next, visit classic spots around central Yamagata to fully experience the city's culture and character. In the evening, return to Kajo Park, the festival venue, and fill up on food-stall fare while waiting for the fireworks to begin. Once the sun sets, settle into the park's open grounds and take in, with your whole body, one of Yamagata's biggest summer events: about 7,000 large fireworks blooming directly overhead. The spectacular starmine bursts and finale that paint the Tohoku night sky make for a stunning summer memory the whole family will remember.
