2026 Odate Daimonji Festival Fireworks Display: A Full-Day Course
This one-day course centers on the Odate Daimonji Festival Fireworks Display (大館大文字まつり花火大会), held on August 11, 2026 (holiday), and lets you enjoy the town of Odate in Akita Prefecture (秋田県大館市) to the fullest, starting from midday. In the afternoon, touch on Odate's history at the Odate City Ogita Folklore Museum (大館市立扇田郷土資料館) and Odate Castle Ruins (大館城址, Shiroyama Park/城山公園), and enjoy the evening atmosphere while strolling along the Nagiki River (長木川) that flows through the city. In the evening, fill up on Akita specialties such as kiritanpo hot pot (きりたんぽ鍋) and Hinai jidori chicken (比内地鶏) dishes in the area near the station, then move to the Nagiki River riverbank (長木川河川敷) to secure a viewing spot. Once night falls, about 2,000 fireworks shells light up the sky, capping off the Daimonji Festival (大文字まつり) with its finale. It is a one-day plan perfect for families who want to fully savor Tohoku's short summer in Odate.
