2026 Oyodo Gion Festival and Fireworks: A Full-Day Course
This is a full-day course centered on the Oyodo Gion Festival and Fireworks, held around Oyodo Fishing Port in Meiwa Town, Taki District, Mie Prefecture, on Saturday, July 25, 2026. At midday, walk the vast grounds of Saiku Ruins (斎宮跡), a national historic site, and touch Heian-period court culture at the adjoining Saiku History Museum (斎宮歴史博物館). At the following Itsukinomiya Historical Experience Museum (いつきのみや歴史体験館), families can enjoy the world of ancient court costume, including trying on a juni-hitoe (twelve-layered robe). In the evening, move to the area around Oyodo Fishing Port to fill up on local food stalls and boxed lunches while securing a viewing spot. The fireworks are scheduled to begin at 7:20 PM (the time may vary) and color the night sky over Ise Bay. This is a summer day plan unique to Meiwa Town, combining a historical walk with fireworks by the sea. The area around the venue gets very crowded on the day, so early action is recommended. From a historical walk through Saiku to the fireworks, this course packs in both learning and a summer festival.
