2026 Takehara Sumiyoshi Festival Fireworks Display: Full-Day Enjoyment Course
Centered on the Takehara Sumiyoshi Festival Fireworks Display starting at 8:45 PM on Sunday, July 26, 2026, this course lets you spend a full day enjoying the townscape of Takehara, known as the Little Kyoto of Aki. The Sumiyoshi Festival is held over two days, Saturday, July 25 and Sunday, July 26, with the fireworks launching on the night of the second day, the 26th. During the day, stroll through the Townscape Preservation District, which still carries the atmosphere of the Edo period, take a break at Shokei no Hiroba, a plaza overlooking the sea, and learn about the town's history at the Takehara Museum of History and Folklore. In the evening, head back to the Honmachi district, home to Sumiyoshi Shrine, to fill up while waiting for the show to begin, and at night the Sumiyoshi Festival fireworks color the sky. This is a summer day plan unique to Takehara, letting you fully enjoy both a historical stroll and fireworks.
