2026 Aizu Kogen Tateiwa Summer Festival & Fireworks Display: A Full One-Day Course
This one-day course is centered on the Aizu Kogen Tateiwa Summer Festival & Fireworks Display, held on Saturday, July 25, 2026 at Takatsue-hara (高杖原, Takatsue Highlands) in Minamiaizu Town, Fukushima Prefecture, and lets you fully enjoy the mountain nature for a whole day. At midday, visit the Maezawa Magariya Village (前沢曲家集落), designated as a National Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings, and experience the old-fashioned mountain village scenery lined with thatched-roof magariya farmhouses. Next, enjoy the cool highland air and outdoor activities unique to the Takatsue Highlands (高杖高原), and cool off by the babbling waters of the clear Tateiwa River (舘岩川). In the evening, pick up dinner and stake out a spot near the festival venue, and wait for the sun to set. At 7 PM, fireworks launch into the night sky above the highlands, surrounded by mountains, offering a quiet, clear summer night quite different from city fireworks for about an hour until 8 PM. This is a Minamiaizu-original plan that lets you enjoy a tour of a traditional village, highland nature, and fireworks lighting up the night sky, all in one. Since this is a high-elevation area, nights can be surprisingly chilly.
