2026 JGSDF Kokubu Garrison Summer Festival: A Full One-Day Course
Timed with the summer festival that has traditionally been held each year at the JGSDF Kokubu Garrison (陸上自衛隊国分駐屯地) in Kirishima City, this is a one-day course touring the history and nature of the Kokubu area of Kirishima City. At midday, visit Uenohara Jomon no Mori (上野原縄文の森), an archaeological park where you can experience Jomon-period life. Next, enjoy the sweeping panorama of Sakurajima (桜島) and Kinko Bay (錦江湾) from Kokubu Shiroyama Park (国分城山公園), and in the afternoon, take a historical stroll at Hayato-zuka (隼人塚), where Heian-period stone pagodas remain. In the evening, enjoy dinner and souvenir shopping at the shopping street in front of Kokubu Station (国分駅前商店街). In years when it's held, the Kokubu Garrison's summer festival closes with fireworks launched at night. Please always check the official announcement before heading out to confirm whether it's being held in 2026 and the plans for the day.
