2026 64th Yubara Onsen Hanzaki Festival: A Full-Day Course
A one-day course along the Asahi River enjoying Yubara Onsen, centered on the 64th Yubara Onsen Hanzaki Festival, held Saturday, August 8, 2026. At midday, observe the Japanese giant salamander, a Special Natural Monument, up close at the Hanzaki Center and learn the origin of the festival's name. After strolling through the hot-spring town along the Asahi River, visit the Yubara Dam, known as Japan's first rockfill dam, for a bit of a field-trip feel. In the evening, have dinner in the hot-spring town and secure a viewing spot along the banks of the Asahi River. As night falls, fireworks rise over the mountain valley, wrapped in a fantastical atmosphere together with the glow of the inns and the drifting hot-spring steam. This plan packs in both a hot-spring town stroll and valley fireworks, a course unique to summer at Yubara Onsen.
