2026 Fukuchiyama Dokkoise Festival: A Full Day to Enjoy
The 《Fukuchiyama Dokkoise Festival (福知山ドッコイセまつり)》 unfolds around Goryo Park (御霊公園) and Hirokoji-dori (広小路通り), as well as the Fukuchiyama Station North Exit Park (福知山駅北口公園), in Fukuchiyama City, Kyoto Prefecture. In 2026, it's held over two days on the schedule of Friday, August 14, from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and Tuesday, August 25, from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM (the two days are not consecutive), and it's Fukuchiyama's leading summer festival, in which dance troupes parade through the streets to the chant of 《Dokkoise, Dokkoise》. This course is a full-day plan centered on the festival's first day, August 14. Start by visiting Fukuchiyama Castle (福知山城), associated with Akechi Mitsuhide (明智光秀), then learn about the history of the castle town coexisting with the Yura River (由良川) at the Flood Control Memorial Hall (治水記念館). Encounter art at the Sato Taisei Memorial Art Museum (佐藤太清記念美術館), and once you've fueled up at the shopping street in front of the station, the Dokkoise Festival finally begins at 2:00 PM. This is a day where you can savor both the history of Fukuchiyama's castle town and the excitement of the town filled with dancing, all in one go.
