2026 Chirikuhachimangu Shrine Nagoshi Festival: A Full-Day Course
The Chirikuhachimangu Shrine Nagoshi Festival is held at Chirikuhachimangu Shrine in Miyaki Town, Miyaki District, Saga Prefecture. In 2026 it takes place on Saturday, August 1, with the chinowa-kuguri purification ritual beginning at 7:00 a.m., a traditional event to cleanse away the sins and impurities of the past half year and pray for good health in the half year ahead. The rites continue throughout the day. This course lets you enjoy the culture and nature of the surrounding area before visiting the shrine. Start at Kyushu Geibunkan (九州芸文館), an art and culture facility in neighboring Chikugo City, Fukuoka Prefecture, then fill up on local farm and marine products at the Kazemachi Marche market at Michi-no-Eki Kamimine (道の駅 かみみね). Climb the 146 stone steps for an unhurried visit to Chirikuhachimangu Shrine, take a breather at Nakabaru Park (中原公園), and then return to Chirikuhachimangu Shrine to pass through the chinowa purification ring. It is a day to fully soak up the charms of Miyaki Town and its surroundings, perfect for a family outing.
