2026 Awaji Island Festival Full-Day Course
This full-day course centers on the Awaji Island Festival, held across the city center of Sumoto, Hyogo Prefecture (in 2026, held over two days, July 31 (Fri.) and August 1 (Sat.), with the first day running from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.). During the day, take in the sea and townscape of Awaji Island from the Sumoto Castle Ruins towering atop Mt. Mikuma, Sumoto's symbol, then learn about the island's history at the Awaji Culture History Museum. After walking through the Sumoto Honmachi Shopping Street with its lingering retro atmosphere, take a break at Ohama Beach and enjoy the sea breeze. In the evening, have an early dinner in the city center near the Sumoto River to prepare for the festival. At 6:30 p.m., the entire Sumoto city area finally comes alive. Together with stage performances and the glow of paper lanterns, a night marking the peak of Awaji Island's summer begins. A day perfect for families to savor both the atmosphere of the castle ruins and port town, and the excitement of the festival.
