2026 Beppu Hamawaki Yakushi Festival: A Full Day Course
This one-day course lets you savor the first day of the 《Beppu Hamawaki Yakushi Festival》 (べっぷ浜脇薬師祭り), said to have continued for over 400 years at Hamawaki Onsen (浜脇温泉), the birthplace of Beppu hot springs, held on August 29 and 30, 2026. During the day, take in a panoramic view of the city and sea from Beppu Tower (別府タワー), Beppu's symbol, experience the power of the Hells Tour at Umi Jigoku (海地獄) with its expanse of cobalt-blue hot spring water, and feel Beppu's distinctive retro hot-spring-town atmosphere at Takegawara Onsen (竹瓦温泉) with its karahafu-style roof. In the evening, have an early dinner at Kita Kōka Shopping Street (北高架商店街), directly connected to Beppu Station, before heading to the Yakushi Festival, which begins around 16:00 around Hamawaki Onsen. It's a summer day where you can enjoy the hot spring town, steam and all, bustling with lantern light and people in yukata.
