2026 Kita-Komi de Bon Odori Festival: A Full-Day Course
This full-day course centers on the ‘Kita-Komi de Bon Odori Festival’ (北コミde盆踊り祭), a community-rooted summer festival long loved in Ikoma City, Nara Prefecture (August 30, 2026, at Kita Community Center ISTA Habataki). In the daytime, visit Hozan-ji Temple (宝山寺), built on the slopes of Mount Ikoma. The temple grounds, where the main hall clings to the cliffside, stay pleasantly cool in the shade even in summer. Next, transfer cable cars up to the summit and enjoy family-friendly rides such as a Ferris wheel and a mini railway at Ikoma Sanjo Yuenchi (生駒山上遊園地). After coming down the mountain, have an early dinner at the Pikkuri-dori shopping street (ぴっくり通り商店街) near the station, then change into a yukata before heading to the festival venue. From 16:00 to 20:00, lanterns light up the venue and a circle of Bon-dance participants begins to form around the yagura tower. It's a day for families to fully enjoy a warm community summer festival supported by local residents. Joining the dance circle is sure to make for a memorable Ikoma summer.
