2026 Izumo Myth Festival: Izumo Bon Dance Full-Day Course

The 'Izumo Myth Festival: Izumo Bon Dance' (出雲神話まつり 出雲盆踊り) is held in the central district of Izumo, the land of myths, at Kunibiki Chuo-dori Yotsukado Plaza (くにびき中央通り四つ角広場) in Imaichi-cho (今市町) (August 8, 2026, 16:00-20:00). This one-day course, unique to the land of myths, begins with a visit to Izumo Taisha (出雲大社), known as the deity of love and relationships. During the day, look up at the giant sacred rope at Izumo Taisha, learn about the world of myth at the Shimane Prefectural Ancient Izumo History Museum (島根県立古代出雲歴史博物館), and experience the charm of a wealthy farmer's estate at the Izumo Cultural Heritage Museum (出雲文化伝承館). After a light meal near Izumo-shi Station (出雲市駅), at 16:00 the sound of ondo chanting and taiko drums begins to echo across Kunibiki Chuo-dori Yotsukado Plaza.
