2026 Mitsunari Atago Festival Full-Day Course
The 'Mitsunari Atago Festival' (三成愛宕祭) is held in the Mitsunari district of Okuizumo Town (奥出雲町), Nita District (仁多郡), Shimane Prefecture, a land known for tatara ironmaking and Nita rice (仁多米) (held August 24, 2026). This one-day course centers on the festival day (August 24, 2026), a tradition carried on deep within the lush Chugoku Mountains. During the day, encounter dinosaurs and the wonders of nature at the Okuizumo Tane Museum of Natural History (奥出雲多根自然博物館), learn about the history of tatara ironmaking at the Itohara Memorial Museum (絲原記念館), and cool off at the scenic gorge of Oni no Shitaburui (鬼の舌震). After picking up local dishes for a meal at the Nita Specialty Market (仁多特産市) near Mitsunari Station (三成駅), a festive atmosphere begins to spread through the Mitsunari district from around 17:00. This course lets you experience the nature and traditional culture of the Chugoku Mountains, along with a local festival, all in a single day.
