2026 Bonbori Festival Full-Day Enjoy Course
This is a full-day course to enjoy the first day of the "Bonbori Festival" (August 6–9, 2026, at Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine in Kamakura), where about 400 lanterns decorated by celebrities and cultural figures illuminate the shrine's approach and grounds. During the day, enjoy street food and souvenir shopping on Komachi Street, admire the national treasure Kamakura Daibutsu, have money purified by the sacred water at Sengan Benzaiten for good fortune, and experience the serenity of Zen at Kenchoji Temple, the first of the Five Great Temples of Kamakura. In the evening, have an early dinner around Wakamiya-Oji Street, then at 6 p.m., enter the grounds of Tsurugaoka Hachimangu as the day begins to darken. The entire town is enveloped in light before autumn's grand festival—a night marking the close of Kamakura's summer.
