2026 Fukushima Waraji Matsuri: One-Day Course
This one-day course centers on the first day of the Fukushima Waraji Matsuri, held from Friday, August 7 to Sunday, August 9, 2026, on National Route 13 (Shinobu-dori) and Ekimae-dori in Fukushima City. During the day, visit Haguro Shrine (羽黒神社) on Mount Shinobu (信夫山), the festival's birthplace, experience Jomon-period life at Jomopia Miyahata (じょーもぴあ宮畑), and enjoy art at the Fukushima Prefectural Museum of Art (福島県立美術館) as you explore Fukushima City's history and culture. In the early evening, enjoy street food and dinner at Paseo-dori Shopping Street (パセオ通り商店街), and once the sun sets, head to the venue at last. This is a day where you can feel the town's excitement firsthand as Japan's largest giant straw sandal is paraded through the streets and drumbeats echo through town from the 6:30 p.m. main event. Savor this traditional event that symbolizes summer in Fukushima with your whole family.
