2026 Numata Matsuri: A Full-Day Course
The Numata Matsuri is held every summer in Numata City, a castle town on one of the Kanto region's finest river terraces. In 2026, it takes place over three days, from Monday, August 3 to Wednesday, August 5, across the city center including Higashi-Kurauchi-cho. This course is a full-day plan centered on the opening day, August 3. During the day, first stroll through Numata Park, developed on the former main bailey of Numata Castle, then learn about the castle town's history in advance at the Numata City History Museum inside the complex facility Terrace Numata. After walking the shopping streets of the city center for dinner, evening arrives and the whole city center becomes the stage for the Numata Matsuri. Witness the procession of the famous Tengu Mikoshi, a large tengu-mask portable shrine carried only by women, along with the Sennin Odori dance and Numata Gion Bayashi music, the true essence of this vigorous summer festival passed down in this land.
