2026 Shimonita Konnyaku Summer Festival: A Full-Day Course
This one-day plan tours Shimonita, a town in Gunma Prefecture's Kanra District known as a leading production area for konnyaku (konjac), together with the venue of the Shimonita Konnyaku Summer Festival. The 2026 summer festival has been cancelled due to a forecast of rain, and the fireworks have been postponed to the autumn festival on October 11. The course takes you around the retro station building of Shimonita Station on the Joshin Dentetsu Railway and the ruins of Shimonita Castle, introduces you to the region's geological history at the Shimonita Museum of Natural History (known for its fossil discoveries), and lets you browse Shimonita's famous konnyaku products at Michi-no-Eki Shimonita. When the festival is held, food stalls line the plaza of the Konnyaku Handmade Experience Dojo, where you can enjoy walking-around dining featuring konnyaku dishes. It's a day to enjoy Shimonita's food culture and townscape while checking the latest event information.
