2026 Raiden Festival - Tomi Dosukoi SUNSUN - Full-Day Course
The Raiden Festival - Tomi Dosukoi SUNSUN is held around the Tanaka shopping street in Tomi City, Nagano Prefecture, the hometown of the legendary Edo-period sumo grand champion Raiden Tameemon. In 2026 it takes place on Saturday, August 1, with the shopping street coming alive with sumo-themed events and dances honoring this local sumo star. This course is a full-day plan for enjoying Tomi's historic townscape along the Chikuma River basin from midday, then experiencing the festival's excitement at night. During the day, stroll through Unno-juku, which retains the atmosphere of a post town on the Hokkoku Kaido, and learn about Raiden at Michi-no-Eki Raiden Kurumi-no-Sato. Next, enjoy the view from the hilltop Mizuho Onsen Yurakukan overlooking the Chikuma River basin, then have dinner near Tanaka Station to refuel. As the sun begins to set, head to the Tanaka shopping street area. It's a day the whole family can enjoy, filled with the sounds of sumo work chants (jinku) and dances on a summer night in Tomi.
