2026 Tsushima Shrine Summer Grand Festival: Full-Day Course
This is a one-day course centered on the opening day of the 'Tsushima Shrine Summer Grand Festival' (Aug. 4-5, 2026), known as a guardian deity of children, when a temporary bridge is built only two days a year. During the day, walk the mountainside stone steps at Iyadaniji Temple (弥谷寺), one of the Shikoku pilgrimage sites, take in the breathtaking cliffside view at neighboring Shusshakaji Temple (出釈迦寺), and experience the temple grounds of Motoyamaji Temple (本山寺), with its National Treasure main hall and towering five-story pagoda. After a break at the roadside station, it's finally time to head to Tsushima Shrine (津嶋神社) in the evening. The sight of crossing the temporary bridge to the small island floating in the sea to pray is a special experience available only on this day. With a pilgrimage during the day and a visit at night to pray for children's growth, you can spend a day unique to Mitoyo.
