2026 Kagoshima Jingu Rokugatsu-do (June Lantern Festival): A Full One-Day Course
A full-day course to enjoy the “Kagoshima Jingu Rokugatsu-do” (鹿児島神宮六月灯, July 28, 2026, Hayato-cho, Kirishima City), when the grounds of Kagoshima Jingu Shrine, the Ichinomiya of Osumi Province, are filled with hundreds of lanterns. During the day, first watch planes take off and land from the observation deck at Kagoshima Airport (鹿児島空港), then encounter ancient stone statues at Hayato Tsuka (隼人塚). After strolling through the steaming streets of the Hinatayama Onsen hot spring town (日当山温泉街), have an early dinner in front of Hayato Station (隼人駅). Past 5:00 p.m., as the sun begins to set, the lanterns at Kagoshima Jingu Shrine light up, beginning a time for families to walk the magical nighttime approach to the shrine.
