A full-day course to enjoy the first day of the Rokugatsu Lantern Festival at Kagoshima Prefecture Gokoku Shrine (July 29-30, 2026, Kusamuta, Kagoshima) where lanterns glow at the foot of Shiroyama mountain overlooking the city. Start by taking in panoramic views of Sakurajima and the cityscape from Shiroyama Park Observatory, then explore Satsuma history at the Tsurumaru Castle Ruins and Reimeikan. Stop by the Takamori Saigō Statue, then enjoy an early dinner and shopping in Tenmonkan. As the sun dips after 5 PM, lantern lights illuminate Gokoku Shrine's grounds, beginning a quiet and solemn evening of the Rokugatsu Lantern Festival.
