2026 Mitarai Gorge (みたらい渓谷) Full-Day Course
A full-day course starring “Mitarai Gorge” (みたらい渓谷) in Kitatsuno, Tenkawa Village, Yoshino District, Nara Prefecture. A walking path of about 8 kilometers is maintained and open at all times, making it easy to visit in any season, though weekends and public holidays in summer and the autumn foliage season get very crowded. In the morning, first pay your respects at Tenkawa Dai-Benzaiten-sha Shrine (天河大辨財天社), cherished as the guardian shrine of all Tenkawa Village, and ask for a safe trip. Then stop at Dorogawa Onsen (洞川温泉), charming for its famous spring water and hot spring town character, and stroll in the cool air. After lunch, it is finally time for Mitarai Gorge. Walk the path along a stream that shines emerald green and a run of waterfalls large and small, and forget the summer heat by the water. Avoiding the hours when the water is still cold and enjoying water play when the sun is high is the way to spend a day in this gorge. A family day soaking up the nature of Tenkawa Village, in touch with deep forest and clear water.
