2026 Hinachi Dam Downstream Waterside Park Stream Channel Full-Day Course
A one-day course starring the Hinachi Dam Downstream Waterside Park stream channel in Nabari City, cooling off in the mountains. It is an artificial babbling channel fed by water flowing out of the dam, and the official guidance from the Japan Water Agency introduces it as a place that fills up with families at weekends because children use it for paddling, making it a well-known free water-play spot among locals. Unlike the sea or a pool, the flow is shallow and gentle, so even toddlers who have only just started walking can safely put their feet in. The dam water is chilly, cold enough that even at the height of summer your body cools down if you stay in too long. The park has a plaza looking up at the dam, where you can lay a sheet in the shade and relax. A generator from the former Hinachi Power Station is on display in the grounds, a good opening for talking with children about how water turns into electricity. In the morning, touch ancient Iga at the Natsumi Temple Ruins in the city, then take in the scale of the dam by looking out over Lake Hinachi from the embankment. The opening period has not been announced, so if you visit outside summer, check local conditions before you set out.
