2026 Kyoto Prefectural Rakusai Purification Center Park Seseragi One-Day Course
In the park spreading along the Katsura River in Nagaokakyo City, there is a free water play spot called Kyoto Prefectural Rakusai Purification Center Park (Aqua Parco Rakusai) Seseragi (京都府立洛西浄化センター公園(アクアパルコ洛西)せせらぎ). It is typically open year-round (open daily except around the New Year holidays) from 9:00 to 21:00, though the water-flow period for the stream is not publicly announced. The venue is Kyoto Prefectural Rakusai Purification Center Park (Aqua Parco Rakusai) in Nagaokakyo City, and only the tennis courts and ball game field require a fee. An artificial stream about 1m wide and only a few centimeters deep flows beside the lawn plaza, making it a gentle water spot that even small children can walk into on their own. A row of cherry trees lines the stream, so its shade becomes a cool resting spot in summer. Combination play equipment, restrooms, and parking are all available, making it easy to plan a visit whether by car or train. In the morning, head to Oyamazaki, where historic roads intersect, and touch on the area's history at Rikyu Hachimangu Shrine (離宮八幡宮) and the Oyamazaki Town History Museum (大山崎町歴史資料館). For lunch, take a break at the museum on the slopes of Mt. Tennozan, then head to the Seseragi stream at Aqua Parco Rakusai in the afternoon. Since the park stays open until 9 p.m., you can comfortably spend time there until the cool evening hours, a way of using this spot that's unique to it.
