2026 Kyoto Prefectural Yamashiro General Sports Park Asobi-no-Mori / Fureai-no-Mori Waterside Full-Day Course
In a large park spreading over the hills of Uji City there is a waterside you can enjoy for free, the Kyoto Prefectural Yamashiro General Sports Park (Taiyogaoka) Asobi-no-Mori / Fureai-no-Mori Waterside. The 2026 opening period has not been announced; in a typical year the water runs during the summer holidays. The pedestrian gates are open from 5:00 to 22:00 and the vehicle gates from 7:00 to 22:00, entry is unrestricted, and both admission and water play are free (only the Family Pool has a separate charge). The venue is Kyoto Prefectural Yamashiro General Sports Park (Taiyogaoka) in Uji City, where Asobi-no-Mori has a circular pond 20 m across and 0.3 m deep together with a waterwheel hut. Fureai-no-Mori spreads out with a 330 m watercourse and a lawn plaza, and Furusato-no-Mori has an 83 m watercourse as well, so being able to walk from one kind of waterside to another in a single day is this park's great distinction. The circular pond, at 0.3 m deep, is shallow enough for small children to stand in, and they can play while watching the waterwheel turn. In the morning, pay your respects at Mimurotoji Temple (三室戸寺), known for hydrangeas and lotuses, then go straight on to the adjoining Uji City Botanical Park (宇治市植物公園). At lunch, spread out a packed lunch in Fureai-no-Mori at Taiyogaoka, and in the afternoon the round of watersides begins at last. Surrounded by the groves of the hills there is plenty of shade, so you can choose a resting place even in midsummer, which is a blessing for families.
