2026 Kose Shinsui Park (古世親水公園) Full-Day Course
In the middle of Kameoka's old castle town sits Kose Shinsui Park (古世親水公園), a free waterside play spot. The 2026 opening period has not been announced; in most years the summer school holidays are the time to go. It is a city park open year-round, and because it uses natural spring water, no water-flow period is published. The venue is Kose Shinsui Park in Kameoka City, a park laid out on the site of the former outer moat of Kameyama Castle. Water welling up from upstream forms a stream about 10 cm deep, with a walkway running alongside it. Stepping stones are set in the lower section, so even a child who is a little afraid of the water can start by crossing on the stones, which is a thoughtful touch. Cherry, spirea and other seasonal flowers are planted here, and in summer the groves soften the sunlight. In the morning, visit the ruins of Tanba Kameyama Castle built by Akechi Mitsuhide, then spread out a packed lunch beside Nango Pond, the former outer moat, for a day that feels like the castle town it is. The greatest charm of this park is the memory the land holds: water that once filled the castle moat now flows as a playground for children. It is within walking distance of JR Kameoka Station (JR亀岡駅), so you can plan it as a neighborhood outing done entirely by train.
