2026 Wattsu Nature Park Water Play Area (輪厚自然公園 水遊び場): Full-Day Course
This is a free full-day course built around the Wattsu Nature Park Water Play Area (輪厚自然公園 水遊び場) in Kitahiroshima City. The 2026 opening period has not been announced, but in most years the water is turned on to match the summer holidays. Beyond a shallow water play area where even small children can play safely, this park's great appeal is its long slide built into an artificial hill and its combination playground equipment. Because you can enjoy both water and play equipment in one day, siblings of different ages can all be satisfied. In the morning, visit the Former Shimamatsu Post Station (旧島松駅逓所). This relay station building that supported transport in Hokkaido remains as a nationally designated historic site, and it is also known as the home of Nakayama Kyuzo, who pioneered rice farming in this cold region, and as the place where Dr. Clark said farewell to his students. At lunch, move to Mitsui Outlet Park Sapporo Kitahiroshima for meals and shopping suited to each family member's tastes. In the afternoon, at last, spend time at the Wattsu Nature Park Water Play Area sending up spray until evening. History, shopping and water play, three activities of quite different character, are linked by drives of under 15 minutes. Opening conditions vary from year to year, so checking Kitahiroshima City's information before you go is reassuring.
