2026 Showa Park (昭和公園) Stream / Fountain: A Full Day Course
This is a free one-day course starring the Showa Park (昭和公園) Stream / Fountain water play area in Hakodate City. In 2026 it opens from Wednesday, July 1, becoming available as soon as preparations are complete (the closing date has not been announced). Because the stream and the fountain are in the same place, children who want to walk along the flowing water and children who want to be splashed can each play their own way. Large playground equipment, restrooms, and a parking lot are all on site, which families will appreciate. In the morning, visit Goryokaku Tower (五稜郭タワー). The star-shaped Goryokaku seen from the observation deck has a beauty you cannot perceive from ground level, and it lets you understand at a glance how the city of Hakodate came to be. At midday, move to Hakodate Tsutaya Books (函館蔦屋書店) for an unhurried meal and rest in the spacious, bookshelf-lined store. In the afternoon, it is finally time for the Showa Park (昭和公園) Stream / Fountain water play area, where you can play in the water until evening. Every transfer takes about 10 minutes by car, so the whole day fits within Hakodate's new town area centered on Goryokaku. Since the opening status depends on how preparations progress, it is reassuring to check the Hakodate City information before you set out.
