This is a full-day course you can enjoy free of charge, built around the Airport Green Space Takamatsu Observation Plaza Water Play Area (空港緑地高松展望広場 水遊び場) in Hakodate (函館市). In 2026 it will open from Wednesday, July 1, becoming available as soon as preparations are complete (the closing date has not been announced). This observation plaza sits right beside Hakodate Airport (函館空港), offering an experience found nowhere else: playing in the water while looking up at planes taking off and landing close overhead. With a shallow water play area, playground equipment and parking all in place, children never get bored even while waiting for the next aircraft. In the morning, visit the Hakodate Tropical Botanical Garden (函館市熱帯植物園). Between the tropical plants filling the glass greenhouse and the Japanese macaques kept there, you can spend time forgetting you are in Hokkaido (北海道). Then continue to the Trappistine Convent (トラピスチヌ修道院). Standing on a hill, the red-brick and white-walled buildings with their tended front garden form one of Hakodate's signature scenes. For lunch, eat at a restaurant in Hakodate Airport while watching planes from the observation deck. In the afternoon it is finally time for the Takamatsu Observation Plaza water play area, where you can splash about until evening to the sound of aircraft.
