2026 Kawashimo Park (川下公園) Canal: Full-Day Course

The Kawashimo Park Canal (Water Play) is a free water play spot that appears only in summer at Kawashimo Park (川下公園) in Shiroishi Ward, Sapporo. In 2026 it is open from Wednesday, July 1 to Monday, August 31, from 10:00 to 16:00. The venue is Kawashimo Park in Shiroishi Ward, Sapporo, where wall fountains and water jets line a canal roughly 170 meters long; its pride is a scale that lets you spend a whole day simply following the waterway on foot. Use is free, and with the Relax Plaza, restrooms, and parking all on site, even families with small children can settle in for the whole day. Start the morning with a visit to Shiroishi Shrine, known for drawing some of Hokkaido's largest New Year crowds, and touch on the history of this land. After that, head to the lilac woods inside the same Kawashimo Park. It is a corner planted with many lilacs, the tree beloved as the symbol of Sapporo, and in summer the deep green shade makes a pleasant walking path. Take an indoor lunch break at the Relax Plaza, and in the afternoon it is finally time for water play at the canal. Keep in mind that every Friday the water level is lowered in the morning for cleaning, and that there are no lifeguards, so an adult must always stay close and watch over the children as they play.
