2026 Higashi-Tsukisamu Park Water Play Area: A Full Day Course
The Higashi-Tsukisamu Park Water Play Area is a free water play spot that appears only in summer at Higashi-Tsukisamu Park (東月寒公園) in Toyohira Ward, Sapporo. The season usually runs from Wednesday, July 1 to Monday, August 31, from 9:00 to 17:00, and the City of Sapporo's information gives it as "early July to late August". The venue is Higashi-Tsukisamu Park in Toyohira Ward, Sapporo, and because the water is shallow, even small children can step in easily and play within their parents' sight. Admission is free, and the long hours from morning to evening let you choose a time that fits your family's schedule. In the morning, head to Sapporo Hitsujigaoka Observation Hill, also in Toyohira Ward. With sheep grazing on the hilltop and the city of Sapporo spreading out beyond them, it is a place where a single view makes you feel you have truly arrived in Hokkaido. Have lunch at the observation hill's rest house, then start the afternoon at Hiraoka Park (平岡公園) in Kiyota Ward. Known for its plum grove, in summer the park becomes a cool walking route along the boardwalk laid across the wetland. Then return to Higashi-Tsukisamu Park, change into swimsuits and splash about until evening. It is a day that takes in hill, forest and water in turn, savouring the nature stretching from Toyohira Ward across to Kiyota Ward. Opening may change due to weather or cleaning, so please check the City of Sapporo's information before you set out.
