2026 Atsubetsu-Nishi Park Water Play Area: A Full Day Course
The Atsubetsu-Nishi Park Water Play Area is a free water play spot that appears only in summer at Atsubetsu-Nishi Park (厚別西公園) in Atsubetsu Ward, Sapporo. In 2026 it is open from Wednesday, July 1 to Monday, August 31, from 9:30 to 16:30. The venue is Atsubetsu-Nishi Park in Atsubetsu Ward, Sapporo, and because the water is shallow, even small children can step in easily and play within their parents' sight. Admission is free, and since it stays open for two whole months, you can come back as often as you like during the summer holidays, which is what makes this water play area so easy to use. In the morning, head to the Hokkaido Museum (北海道博物館), also in Atsubetsu Ward. Its exhibits trace Hokkaido's nature and history in order, from Ainu culture through to the present day, and can be viewed at leisure in the cool indoors. For lunch, move on to the Sunpiazza shopping complex in Shin-Sapporo, where everyone can pick what they feel like eating and take a relaxed break. In the afternoon, return to Atsubetsu-Nishi Park, change into swimsuits and splash about until closing time. It is an efficient day that captures the character of Atsubetsu Ward, with learning, shopping and water play all within a three kilometre radius. Opening may change due to weather or cleaning, so please check the City of Sapporo's information before you set out.
