2026 Sumikawa Sunny Park Water Play Area: A Full Day of Fun

This one-day course stays entirely within Minami Ward, Sapporo, and centres on the free Sumikawa Sunny Park Water Play Area inside Sumikawa Sunny Park. The 2026 season runs from Friday 10 July to Tuesday 25 August, hours are 10:00 to 16:00, and admission is free. What makes this spot special is the pool about 30 cm deep with two water slides. There is also a shallow area about 10 cm deep with an elephant-shaped slide, so elementary schoolers and preschoolers can each play at a depth that suits them. In the morning, visit the Sapporo Toyohira River Salmon Science Museum inside Makomanai Park (真駒内公園). Following the life of the salmon in the tanks and learning about the fish that return to the Toyohira River (豊平川) before getting into the water ties the whole day together. After that, spread out a picnic lunch in the shade of the spacious Makomanai Park and walk the riverside paths to cool off. In the afternoon, move to Sumikawa Sunny Park Water Play Area and go back and forth between the water slides and the elephant slide. There is plenty of time to play until the 16:00 close. Each transfer takes only about 10 minutes by car, making this a classic summer plan with no long drives.
