2026 Maeda Park Water Play Area: A Full Day Course
A one-day course tracing the history and scenery of Teine-ku, built around the free Maeda Park Water Play Area in Maeda Park (前田公園) in Teine-ku, Sapporo. The water play area usually runs from around Wednesday, July 1 to around Monday, August 31, from 10:00 to 16:00, and the City of Sapporo lists it as early July to late August. Admission is free, and the water is shallow, so even small children can wade in safely. In the morning, head to the Teine Yamaguchi Locust Mound. This nationally rare historic site preserves the place where locusts from a great outbreak in the Meiji era were buried, and it shows how the people of the pioneer era dealt with nature. Next, move on to Maeda Forest Park (前田森林公園). Rows of poplars line both sides of a straight canal, with Mt. Teine (手稲山) in the distance, making it one of the finest views in Sapporo. From the observation lounge you can look out over the whole park. In the afternoon, splash about at the Maeda Park Water Play Area until it closes at 16:00. A historic site, fine scenery, and water play, all gathered within a 10-minute drive: a course very much in the spirit of Teine-ku.
