2026 Shunkoen Park Wading Pool Full-Day Course
The Shunko area of Asahikawa City was once home to the Army 7th Division, and traces of it still remain throughout the neighbourhood. The Shunkoen Park Wading Pool (春光園 徒渉池) there is a free water play area, open from Monday 1 June to Monday 31 August 2026, from 10:00 to 17:00. The venue is Shunkoen Park (春光園) in Asahikawa City, and because it is a shallow wading pool, even children who have only just started walking can play within a parent reach. In the morning, visit the Nakahara Teijiro Memorial Asahikawa City Museum of Sculpture (中原悌二郎記念旭川市彫刻美術館), just a short walk away. A wooden Western-style building erected as the officers social club of the old army now serves as the museum itself, and the building alone is worth the trip. Stopping next at the Hokuchin Memorial Museum (北鎮記念館) reveals, through original materials, that this residential district was opened as a military town. Take a relaxed lunch indoors in the cool and let the strongest sunlight of the day pass. In the afternoon, change into swimwear, return to the Shunkoen Park Wading Pool and play amid the splashing until the 17:00 closing. It is a summer day of children delighting in one corner of a town with history. Because the pool may close due to weather or water-quality management, checking the Asahikawa City information before you set out brings peace of mind.
