2026 Kaguraoka Park Waterfall and Stream: A Full Day Course
Kaguraoka Park (神楽岡公園), spread over a hill along the Chubetsu River (忠別川) south of Asahikawa, is a woodland park where forest from the settlement era has been left standing. The Kaguraoka Park Waterfall and Stream, which runs through those woods, is a free water play spot where the water flows from Monday, June 1 to Monday, August 31, 2026, between 11:00 and 15:00. The venue is Kaguraoka Park in Asahikawa, with a waterfall and a shallow stream, and the water is shallow enough for small children to step in safely. Being in the woods, there is plenty of shade, so adults can sit somewhere cool and keep watch, and since there is playground equipment too, children can switch to dry-land play once they tire of the water. Start the morning at neighboring Kamikawa Shrine (上川神社). It is the chief guardian shrine of Asahikawa, and simply walking the tree-lined approach changes the air around you. Then continue on to the Asahikawa City Museum (旭川市博物館), where seeing the life of the Ainu people and the history of settlement side by side lets you and your children take in the layers of this land. Have a quick lunch indoors, then head to the Kaguraoka Park Waterfall and Stream in the afternoon. Play in the sound of running water in the forest right up to the 15:00 closing. The hours are fairly short at 11:00 to 15:00, so it is best to keep the afternoon plan relaxed.
