2026 Funabashi Sanbanze Seaside Park Fountain Plaza: A Full Day of Fun
A course for spending a full day by the sea in Funabashi, starring the Funabashi Sanbanze Seaside Park Fountain Plaza, facing the tidal flats of Tokyo Bay. A fountain rises in an arch at the center of the lawn plaza, making an open water-play area where children can run right through underneath it. There is also an observation deck and a barbecue area; use of the park itself is free (parking, barbecue, and the like are charged). The 2026 operating period has not been announced; in most years it runs during the summer holidays. In the morning, go a little further to neighboring Narashino City and take in Yatsu Tidal Flat (谷津干潟), registered under the Ramsar Convention, observing together the wetland where migratory birds and crabs live. For lunch, enjoy an unhurried meal at the IKEA Tokyo-Bay restaurant, with dishes that are easy for children to eat. In the afternoon, move to the Funabashi Sanbanze Seaside Park Fountain Plaza and play in the water until evening, going back and forth between the lawn and the fountain. What makes this course interesting is tasting two contrasting waterfronts on the same Tokyo Bay in one day: a quiet tidal flat and a lively fountain. The sea breeze can be strong, so bringing one extra layer keeps you comfortable.
