2026 Kumagaya Sports and Culture Park Water Play Plaza: A Full-Day Course
A one-day course for cooling off in Kumagaya, a city famous for its heat, starring the Kumagaya Sports and Culture Park Water Play Plaza inside Kumagaya Sports and Culture Park in Kumagaya City. The water plaza is open from Saturday 18 July to Monday 31 August 2026, from 10:00 to 16:00 (closed on Tuesday 4 August and on days with bad weather). Admission is free, and a Children's Playground full of play structures sits right next door, so children can keep playing at their own pace: the equipment when they tire of the water, the water again when they tire of the equipment. In the morning, visit Seikeien Garden (星溪園) near Kumagaya Station (熊谷駅) and stroll the quiet Japanese garden around Tama Pond to meet another side of Kumagaya. At noon, eat well while cooling off at Yagihashi Department Store (八木橋百貨店) in front of the station, then head to the park in the afternoon. Moving your body at the Children's Playground first and flowing straight on to the water plaza is a wonderfully satisfying order. Precisely because Kumagaya is known as Japan's hottest town, time by the water feels all the more precious. The open season is a short month and a half during the summer holidays, so lock in your dates early.
